Luke Hodge

Luke was drafted to the Hawthorn Football Club from Geelong Falcons at No 1 in the 2001 National Draft. He has gone on to play 135 games and become one of the best players in the AFL. Hodge has shown the ability to play forward, back or in the midfield and his deadly accurate left foot has become one of his trademarks.

His 2005 season was outstanding. Overcoming injuries that had hampered his first 3 seasons Hodge played 21 games and emerged as the Hawks best and most important players. He showed leadership potential and his season was rewarded with the Best & Fairest award as well as All Australian and International Rules honours.

Luke was named Vice Captain of Hawthorn at the beginning of the 2007 season which was another outstanding season from the versatile midfielder.

Luke’s form in 2008 matched that of the Hawks who finished with the AFL Premiership and Hodge won the Norm Smith medal. He played the 2nd half of the season in a rebounding half back role which he played to perfection setting up the Hawks attacking moves. His brilliant season saw him again rewarded with All Australian honours and finishing 3rd in the Hawks Best and Fairest.
